After taking the SAT, you need to officially send your scores to universities. Here's exactly how it works — including free sends, costs, timing, and how to decide which scores to send.
Official SAT Resources
For official test dates, registration, and free practice, visit College Board or practice for free on Khan Academy SAT.
Free Score Sends: 4 Included
When you register for the SAT, you can designate up to 4 schools to receive your scores for free. These must be selected:
Before your test date (for free sends)
Or within 9 days after your test
For international students applying to multiple countries, use your 4 free sends strategically for your top-priority universities.
Sending Scores After Registration ($16 per school)
After your 9-day free window, each additional score send costs $16 USD. To send scores:
Log into your College Board account at collegeboard.org
Go to "Send Scores"
Search for your target university by name or code
Pay with credit/debit card
Scores are typically received within 1-2 weeks (rush processing available for $31)
Score Choice: Which Scores to Send
SAT offers "Score Choice" — you can choose which test date's scores to send. However, some universities have specific policies:
Score Choice accepted: Most universities — you pick which scores to send
All scores required: Some universities (Yale, MIT, Harvard) require you to send ALL SAT scores ever taken
Superscoring: Many universities take your highest section scores across all test dates
Superscoring advantage
If a university superscore, taking SAT twice is strategic — you could get 750 Math first attempt, 720 Math second attempt with 780 RW, and they'd count 750 + 780 = 1530.
Yes — Korean universities like Yonsei and Korea University accept official College Board score reports. Search for the university by name in the College Board score send portal.
Most universities require scores as part of the application, so yes — send them with or before your application. Check each university's specific deadline.
Some universities (especially outside the US) have different reporting requirements. Check the university's admissions page for their specific SAT reporting instructions.
